  Have you considered other ways of counting the ranked choice ballots? IRV is better than plurality voting most of the time but other counting methods, such as “ranked pairs” may be better still, although perhaps harder to count by hand. Here’s a link to a useful Wikipedia article:

  Ranked pairs counting meets Condorcet and monotonicity criteria, which means it is very rare to produce bizarre results.
